Specific Item Information:
This model is based on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Headquarters Building in Baltimore, Maryland that was built in 1906. This building was designed by Parker and Thomas of Boston and exemplifies the best
Beaux-Arts styling. This model captures the dignified and monumental exterior, with beautiful carving and ornamental work replicating the craftsmanship of yesteryear. The model features nine stories (the prototype has 13 stories) but to increase the height, an additional add-on section, sold separately, is offered. This structure would enhance any city scene that would have been constructed in the period from 1905 through 1930 for both railroad and commercial use. The B&O and later Chessie System occupied the building until the creation of CSX Transportation at which time the railroad offices were gradually moved to Jacksonville, Florida. Currently The Hotel Monoco occupies the building.
