Road Name History:
Some items are designed to have their owner add whatever company marking they choose, usually in the form of decals or dry-transfers. These items are painted in a generic prototypical fashion but with all company affiliation deliberately left off.
These items can be lettered or numbered, but without any company name on it.
Brand/Importer Information:
Liliput was founded in 1947 by Walter Buchel in Vienna with six employees, the original company name was "Liliput - R. Cvetkovics und Co.".
The company ran into financial difficulties at the end of the 1980s, and initially the car model manufacturer Herpa appeared as a new partner. However, Herpa's activities were only a short interlude, because in 1992 the British model railway manufacturer Bachmann Europe Plc., a subsidiary of the American Bachmann Industries took over Liliput and transferred production to the parent company, Kader Industrial Company Ltd. to Hong Kong. Since then, Liliput products have been developed and sold by the German branch in Altdorf near Nuremberg.
Due to the various changes in ownership of the company, a distinction is made today between Liliput Vienna, Herpa-Liliput and Liliput-Bachmann when classifying Liliput models over time.
Manufacturer Information:
Bachmann, a US company founded in 1835, was purchased by Kader Industries in 1987. Kader formed Bachmann Industries Europe in 1989 with their main UK headquarters in Moat Way, Barwell, Leicestershire, UK (former Palitoy location) and the following year launched the Bachmann Branchline range for the British market with the moulds that had previously been used for the Palitoy Mainline and Replica Railways model railway products. From this starting point Bachmann has developed the range further and now produce a large range of models.
In 2001 Bachmann Branchline bought Graham Farish, an N gauge manufacturer, and since then many of their models have been made available in both gauges.
Bachmann Europe portfolio also comprises other model trains brands such as Liliput.
