Company History: The CTCoNJ was established in 1894 to lease the New Jersey Traction Company, the Newark Passenger Railway, the Rapid Transit Street Railway, the Jersey City & Bergan and the Jersey City Harrison & Kearny Railway. The following year, they leased the Newark Plank Road Company, Passaic & Newark Electric Traction Company, followed in 1898 by the Newark & South Orange Railway. The acquisitions would have no doubt continued but in 1898 the Consolidated Traction Company of New Jersey was itself leased by the North Jersey Street Railway which later ended up as part of the Public Service Railway empire.
