Prototype History: Given the prevalence of 40 foot containers in the global shipping/maritime industry, the 20 foot container was a logical choice for smaller cargoes. Given that exactly two 20 foot containers can stack on or be stacked on a 40 foot container, these little brothers are a no-brainer for smaller loads. Cargo ships specially designed for 40 foot containers can usually handle these smaller units without specialized loading equipment or facilities.
Dry containers are meant for non-refrigerated goods and hence are the most common type.
Corrugation in the construction of these containers yields much greater strength (just like with corrugated cardboard for boxes) but is more expensive to fabricate. Due to the extra strength granted by the corrugation, this is a popular type for overseas use.

Road Name History: TNT N.V. was an international express, mail delivery and logistics services company with headquarters in Hoofddorp, Netherlands. TNT operated the Dutch national postal service under the name TNT Post. The group also offered postal services in eight other European countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Belgium.
TNT sold its logistics unit in November 2006 to focus on network activities, mail and express delivery services. TNT's networks were concentrated in Europe and Asia, but the group also had operations in the Middle East and South America, and several road freight companies in China, India and Brazil.
On 2 August 2010, TNT N.V. announced its intention to split up into two independent companies, an express and a mail company. The demerger became effective in May 2011: TNT Express was listed on the Amsterdam stock exchange, and TNT N.V. subsequently renamed itself PostNL. TNT N.V. was officially quoted on the Euronext Amsterdam Stock Exchange, until May 2011.
On 25 May 2016, TNT Express was acquired by FedEx.
