Company History: The SCS was launched in 2007 by the Respondek shortline group to operate the 22 mile line between Boonville and Yankeetown, Indiana that had originally been built in 1954 by Yankeetown Dock Company. Coal and grain traffic currently dominate.
In 2008, SCS leased a 17 mile former Central of Georgia line between Madison and Machen, Georgia. The following year, this line was extended 13 miles from the Machen end to Newborn. This lasted until 2014 when the leased lines in Georgia were turned over to CaterParrott Railnet.
Recent additions to the system include switching Foresight Energy’s Sitran Coal Terminal in greater Evansville and a plastics plant in Mount Vernon.
