Specific Item Information: The Oxford series of 1:148 scale Fodens continues with the release of this oval tanker in one of the original British fuel liveries from the late 1940s and ‘50s, that of the Regent Oil Company. Regent was the trademark of the company and their bright livery was a familiar sight, particularly in rural areas, with its petrol pumps lit by the Regent globe in the same corporate colours. Our little model is registered JCL 130 and the authentic company colours of red upper body, white centre banding and bright blue lower body are enhanced with gold lettering along the sides. The cab and chassis echo the bright blue bodywork while the wheel centres are reproduced in bright red. The front wheel hub trims are finished in silver. Along the top of the tanker, the ladder, walkways and tanker caps are silvered and the hoses running along the tanker sides are black. Additional printing on the vehicle is applied in white.
Prototype History:
The completely new FE and FG lorry ranges were introduced in 1948, along with the new Foden FD6 two-stroke diesel engine, which became the standard engine for certain Foden heavy lorry models, such as the S18 FE6/15 Rigid Eight-Wheeler – the optional Gardner 6LW-engined version was the S18 FG6/15. (The S18 designation refers to the new cab that was produced for the new range.) The FD6 two-stroke engine, along with Gardner engines, was also fitted in Foden motorcoaches and buses. Only one Foden PVD double decker had the Foden Engine but it was popular in the PVS and PVR single-deckers, especially in coaching applications because it was much higher revving than the Gardner 5LW or 6LW. Bus and coach production ceased in 1956, but the last chassis only left the works in 1959, when it was registered 367CKA and received an early Plaxton Panorama body. From Wikipedia
Road Name History:
Regent Petrol

1930 Trinidad Leaseholds Ltd., a British company with crude oil concessions in the Caribbean and with its own overseas refinery capacity, entered the United Kingdom market by acquiring the petroleum distribution side of Burt, Boulton and Haywood. Its products would be sold under the Regent Petrol brand, which would be a high grade fuel with natural anti-knock properties.

1936 Trinidad Leaseholds Ltd was one of the independent suppliers of petrol who did not join the Independent Petroleum Federation when it was formed. Its Regent brand petrol sold at the same price as the leading brands.

1939 On 3rd September, the Petroleum Board became an executive body under Government direction. All products were sold under a Pool description, the selling price of each product being subject to Government control.

1948 In preparation for the dissolution of the Petroleum Board (in June 1948), Trinidad Leaseholds and the California Texas Corporation (Caltex) established joint marketing arrangements in the UK and Eire through a new company, the Regent Oil Company.

1962 Regent, which was jointly owned by Texaco and California Texas Corporation (Caltex, built a refinery at Milford Haven. Regent had the 3rd largest distribution chain in the UK.

1967 Split of Caltex assets in Europe left Texaco with almost all the Regent Oil Co properties in the UK except where there was duplication when the property would become Socal's (Standard Oil Co of California).

1967 Regent Oil Co Ltd changed its name to Texaco Ltd.
