Specific Item Information: This flatbed lorry is a new introduction to the 1:148 series and the choice of the British Road Services livery to launch it will be a popular one with enthusiasts. Decorated entirely in red with black trim, the trailer bed is 'planked out' in brown. The lorry is registered LED 123 and features the detailed BRS logo on both sides of the cab doors, as well as the Foden insignia above the radiator and the company name in white out of red across the top of the cab windscreen. Appealing not only to lorry collectors, this detailed little vehicle would sit very well as a lineside accessory on an 'N' gauge railway layout where BRS would have been a frequent sight in the good old days!
Prototype History:
The completely new FE and FG lorry ranges were introduced in 1948, along with the new Foden FD6 two-stroke diesel engine, which became the standard engine for certain Foden heavy lorry models, such as the S18 FE6/15 Rigid Eight-Wheeler – the optional Gardner 6LW-engined version was the S18 FG6/15. (The S18 designation refers to the new cab that was produced for the new range.) The FD6 two-stroke engine, along with Gardner engines, was also fitted in Foden motorcoaches and buses. Only one Foden PVD double decker had the Foden Engine but it was popular in the PVS and PVR single-deckers, especially in coaching applications because it was much higher revving than the Gardner 5LW or 6LW. Bus and coach production ceased in 1956, but the last chassis only left the works in 1959, when it was registered 367CKA and received an early Plaxton Panorama body. From Wikipedia
Road Name History:
The company was established in 1948 as British Road Services (BRS). It was the road transport company formed by the nationalisation of Britain's road haulage industry, under the British Transport Commission, as a result of the Transport Act 1947.

From 1963 the company was administered by the Transport Holding Company and had four main operating areas: British Road Services, BRS Parcels, Pickfords and Containerway & Roadferry.

On 1 January 1969 it was renamed the National Freight Corporation.] On the same date a 51% share in Freightliner was transferred from the British Railways Board (BRB). This was transferred back to the BRB on 1 August 1978.

In 1980 the assets of the National Freight Corporation were transferred to the National Freight Company. In 1982, the company was sold to its employees as the National Freight Consortium in one of the first privatisations of state-owned industry. The new company was first listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1989 and subsequently became NFC plc.

BRS Parcels was rebranded as Roadline and was sold in a management buy-out as Lynx Express in 1997.NFC disposed of Pickfords in 1999 to Allied Van Lines.

In 2000 the company merged with Ocean Group. From Wikipedia
