Company History: Dakota Missouri Valley & WesternThe DMVW launched in 1990, leasing 360 miles of line in North Dakota and Montana from Soo Line. These original routes were between Flaxton to Whitetail and a separate line from Oakes to Washburn. Since then, DMVW has expanded to 525 miles with routes from the area northwest of Bismark, North Dakota to the Aberdeen, South Dakota area. That makes the DMVW the same length as the Alaska Railroad. They have about 32 diesels in their fleet, all built by EMD/GMD. Traffic is mostly grain with a bit of LPG, butane and lumber thrown in for good measure.
