Specific Item Information: Owned by the CIT Group / Capital Finance, Inc. The unique NRLX blue & yellow scheme was applied to about 320 AutoFlood II hoppers and were a common sight on Powder River Basin coal trains or mixed with many other hoppers on coal trains around the country.
Model Information: ExactRail introduced this model in March of 2019. Included with each AutoFlood model is an accurate coal load. Great care was taken to design the load shape to sit offset within the body of the hopper. Like the prototype, many coal flood loads start with a more gentle slope and end with a steeper, abrupt angle.
Prototype History:
As 100-ton steel hoppers approached retirement in the 1980 and 1990's, railroads requested that car builders to lighten cars to improve tare weight and fuel economy. Johnstown America answered this call by producing the aluminum AutoFlood II coal hopper. Johnstown America provided an aerodynamic design with a lower center of gravity and the ability to be bottom or rotory unloaded. The AutoFlood II also included the all-new MegaFlo™ automatic discharge system. The result is a sleek, smooth-sided hopper with extreme, contemporary presence.
Road Name History:
Bombardier Transportation is the rail equipment division of the Canadian firm Bombardier Inc. Bombardier Transportation is one of the world's largest companies in the rail vehicle and equipment manufacturing and servicing industry. The division is headquartered in Berlin, Germany and has many regional offices, production and development facilities worldwide.
The core of the Transportation division was formed with the purchase of Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) in 1975. Bombardier also operates a network of maintenance centers supporting commuter rail fleets in Baltimore, Los Angeles, Orlando, Miami, and San Diego. They provide operations and maintenance services for a light rail fleet in southern New Jersey as well. They manage operations and maintenance services for driverless transit systems in 14 U.S. cities, and have a vehicle and component refurbishment center in New York. Our U.S.-based parts distribution center for rail is in Plattsburgh, New York.

In January 2021, Alstom completed the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation.
