Company History: The CW opened in 1871 with a line from Hartford, Connecticut west to the New York border where they connected with the Dutchess & Columbia Railroad. They leased a short segment of the D&C to reach a connection with the New York & Harlem in Millerton. The CW had difficulty earning enough to cover their construction debt and fell into receivership in 1880. They were reorganized the following year as the Hartford & Connecticut Western Railroad. This route would later become part of the New Haven.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
