Company History: The C&NE was chartered in 1918 and by the autumn of 1920 had built 28 miles of line from Cisco north to Breckenridge, Texas. The line was used to supply the Ranger oil boom in the area and was extremely busy. A fleet of seven steam locomotives worked the line during these boom years. In 1927, Texas & Pacific bought a controlling share of the C&NE but the C&NE continued to operate separately. In 1928, the C&NE was extended another 37 miles from Breckenridge to Throckmorton. The Cisco & Northeastern closed for good in 1942. The scrapping of the line produced approximately 300 carloads of steel scrap for the war effort.
