Company History: First of all, the word Maintenance was frequently omitted from the name of this organization, even on their locomotives. The CBRM was established in 1986 as a non-profit by a local development authority which had just purchased the 37 mile former Wabash line between Chillicothe and Brunswick, Missouri from Norfolk Southern. Interchanges were with Iowa Chicago & Eastern at Chillicothe, BNSF at Sumner and Norfolk Southern at Brunswick. The CBRM was leased to Wabash & Grand River Railway in 1990 but following the Great Midwest Floods of 1993, the W&GR lease was canceled due to flood damage to sections of the line. CBRM resumed operating the line on their own and had some success increasing traffic. Then, in a strange move, the development authority sold the railroad to the city of Chillicothe for just $32,500 (less than the scrap value of a GP9.) By 2004, the 30 miles of line on the Brunswick end had been closed and in 2006 the city of Chillicothe sold that segment to Montoff Transportation (ostensibly a dismantler) for nearly a million dollars. The remaining seven miles of line in Chillicothe is now operated as the Missouri North Central Railroad.

Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
