Company History: The CTT was established in 1897 and soon merged the Chicago & Northern Pacific Railroad and the Chicago & Calumet Terminal. The CTT served as a terminal railroad linking Chicago’s line-haul railroads with Grand Central Station. The CTT was sold in 1910 at a foreclosure sale to Baltimore & Ohio who created the Baltimore & Ohio Chicago Terminal Railroad to operate it.
Successor/Parent History:
B&OCT was formed by the B&O in 1910 to take over Grand Central Station in Chicago and the routes that approach it from the bankrupt Chicago Terminal Transfer Railroad. Being a neutral terminal line, B&OCT and Grand Central Station also hosted trains from Soo, Chicago Great Western, Pere Marquette as well as their parent Baltimore & Ohio. In addition to the passenger traffic, B&OCT also handled freight transfers along their 78 miles of route. The B&OCT is a bit shorter now, only moves freight, and is a subsidiary of CSX. It appears the last diesels with B&OCT lettering were retired in the mid-80s. Either CSX is providing the power now or the lines that use B&OCT to connect with each other are using their own power and crews or perhaps both.
Brief History:
The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
