Company History: The C&CDTCo. was formed in 1931 in the aftermath of the dissolution of the Samuel Insull traction and utility empire. Calumet Railways, a streetcar line serving Hammond, Whiting and East Chicago, Indiana was reorganized as the Chicago & Calumet District Transit Company. The new company also bought two local bus lines and Gary Railways although the latter continued to operate with their own identity. CCDTCo. ended streetcar service on their own routes in 1940 and sold Gary Railways in 1943.
