Company History: In 1906, the Carthage railroad was reorganized as the Randolph & Cumberland Railroad. On August 21, 1924, the NC State Legislature passed an Act authorizing the town of Carthage to purchase the Randolph & Cumberland Railroad. On the same date, the Legislature authorized any purchaser to sell off portions of said railroad.
Successor/Parent History: A re-organization of the existing Randolph & Cumberland Railroad. Moore Central Railway was organized on October 1, 1924 under the laws of North Carolina. Some sources assert that Norfolk Southern Railroad acquired this line, but other sources do not.
