Company History: The CNYK was established in 1972 to purchase the line from Cassville to Richmond Springs, New York from Erie Lackawanna. Freight service was provided until 1988 when the last customer ceased using the railroad. The line was officially abandoned in 1995 and the corporation was shelved. In 2004, the CNYK was re-awakened by the Delaware Otsego shortline group to lease the former Erie Lackawanna Southern Tier line between Binghamton and Port Jervis, New York (123 miles) from Norfolk Southern. The line continues to host Norfolk Southern run-throughs as well as trains from CNYK sister road New York Susquehanna & Western. The Central New York Railroad serves the local customers along the route.
