Company History: The CF&YV was the result of the 1879 merger of the Western Railroad of North Carolina and the Mount Airy & Ore Knob, the latter of which was graded but as yet had no track. By 1894 the CF&YV had built to Red Springs and Bennettsville in South Carolina and to Greensboro, Mount Airy and Wilmington, North Carolina. At that point, they had 331 miles of line but construction debt was threatening to wreck the company. In 1899 the company was sold first to the Wilmington & Weldon and then to Southern Railway. Southern sold the lines south of Sanford back to the W&W and established the Atlantic & Yadkin to operate the lines north of Sanford.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
