Company History: The C&C was established in 1927 to takeover the Pearl River Valley Lumber Company’s logging line from a connection with Illinois Central in Canton, Mississippi east through Carthage to McAfee. Not long after that, another logging line was acquired to extend the line from McAfee east to a connection with Gulf Mobile & Northern in Burnside. A branch to a mill in Palahatchie was also taken over. That branch was abandoned in 1935 when the mill burned. The mainline west of Edinburg was severed the following year after the Burnside mill closed. In 1955, the line was purchased by local interests hoping to preserve service on the Canton to Carthage segment. Traffic did not materialize and the line was abandoned early in 1960.
