Company History: The CGR was established in 1915 to takeover several railway companies that were collapsing under the weight of their own debt combined with traffic from the First World War. The Intercolonial Railway, National Transcontinental Railway, Prince Edward Island Railway, the Hudson Bay Railway and a few branches in New Brunswick were combined under the CGR flag. After just 3 years, the CGR was combined with the Canadian Northern Railway leading to the creation of Canadian National Railways.
