Company History: The T&E was formed in 1944 as a result of the forced separation of Ohio Public Service Company’s electric utility and railroad operations. The railroad ran about 60 miles from Toledo to Marblehead, Ohio. By 1944, OPSCo had already ended passenger service so the new T&E was a freight-only shortline under trolley wire. They connected with New York Central, Wheeling & Lake Erie, Toledo Terminal and shortline Lakeside & Marblehead. T&E delivered coal to a Toledo Edison power plant and served a large dolomite quarry. In 1957, T&E lost both of these customers (Edison to barges and the quarry to New York Central.) Toledo & Eastern closed the following year.
