Company History: The TBRY was established in 1990 by the Southeast Shortlines group to takeover operation of the CSX and NS lines linking Bostic and Alexander Mills, North Carolina, a distance of 16 miles. At start up, part of the line was obstructed by fallen trees, the result of Hurricane Hugo. Operations proceeded with the open part of the line. Although the damage was eventually cleared, traffic on the affected segment never appeared and the line between Gilkey and Spindale was pulled up. Today, the only customer is a trans-load operation near the Bostic end of the line. Thermal Belt have an EMD SW that was re-engined with a Cummins 600hp prime mover. It was originally built for Union Terminal Railway of St. Joseph, Missouri in 1938. They have since also acquired an ex-Army GP10.
