Company History: The Illinois Midland (not to be confused with the Illinois & Midland) began in 1914 and was considered the World's Shortest Railroad at 1.962 miles. Connecting the Illinois farming towns of Newark and Millington with the Newark Farmers Grain Elevator Company the primary customer. The short line met-up with the CB&Q at Millington. The railroad dissolved in 1967 when vandals destroyed their wooden bridges and the cost to repair was too costly.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
