Company History: The TSRR was established in 1989 by the Shortlines, Inc group to takeover a pair of former L&N lines from CSX. The line forms an inverted “J” starting in Florence, Alabama (a port city on the Tennessee River) and running northeast into Tennessee to Iron City, Mt. Pleasant, Siglo and Columbia. It then turns south to Pulaski. Including four short branches, total length is 149 miles. In the early years, TSRR ran with two GP7’s, four GP9’s, two SD18’s and a GP18.
In 2006, TSRR was sold and became the first railroad in the new Patriot Rail shortline group. Patriot has since upgraded the locomotive fleet which as of 2011 included eight GP9’s, a GP30, and six B23-7’s. Traffic includes aluminum, building materials, steel, ties, fertilizer, LPG, plastics, potash, paper, slag and soapstone.
