Transportation Company - Stark Electric - Railroad

Company History: The SERRCo was established in 1900 to build an electric interurban line between Alliance and Canton, Ohio. They bought the Alliance Street Railway to gain access to downtown on that end and obtained trackage rights on the Canton & Massillon Electric Railway to get into Canton proper. They then built east to Sebring and Salem. A package freight service was added in 1907. When neighboring Northern Ohio Traction & Light announced the abandonment of their line from Canton to Massillon, SERRCo launched a subsidiary, the Inter-City Rapid Transit, to take over the line in 1931. The following year, SERRCo. slipped into receivership. Operations continued for another seven years but as equipment wore out, it became clear that the declining passenger business would not pay for its replacement. SERRCo. closed in the Summer of 1939.
