Company History: The SWP was launched in 1995 by the Carload Express shortline group to take over the 66 mile line from Greenburg south to Connellsville and Smithfield, Pennsylvania including five short branches. These are former Pennsylvania Railroad and Baltimore & Ohio routes. As late as 2010, four rebuilt first generation geeps were able to handle the business. Since then, increasing traffic led to the acquisition of two SD40-2’s and two GP40-3’s.
Successor/Parent History: Carload Express predecessor Trimax Holdings is founded for the purpose of acquiring, operating and developing shortline railroads. Trimax acquires assets from a previous company that began leasing locomotives in 1984.
Carload Express runs four shortlines in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
The heart of Carload Express is our three rail lines, the Allegheny Valley Railroad, Delmarva Central Railroad, and Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad.
