Transportation Company - Shore Line East - Railroad

Company History: SLE was originally established by the Connecticut Department of Transportation in 1990 in order to relieve congestion on I-95 which was undergoing heavy construction. The core of the SLE operation is between New London and New Haven, Connecticut although there is limited service beyond New Haven to Bridgeport and Stamford. To get to New York City, passengers change to Metro-North Railroad trains in New Haven. The track is part of Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor and was originally part of the New York New Haven & Hartford mainline. As of this writing, SLE operates with eight P40DC’s, five GP40-2H’s and 33 coaches. For a paint scheme, SLE has adopted New Haven’s McGinnis scheme. Now that Amtrak has electrified the entire route, there are plans to replace all of this equipment with electric MU cars and move the diesel powered trains to other parts of the state.
