Company History: The SLAW was launched in 1977 to be the designated operator on a pair of lines owned by the Ogdensburg Bridge & Port Authority in New York. It ran east from Ogdensburg to Norwood (where they interchanged with Conrail) then northwest to Waddington. The St. Lawrence was a subsidiary of National Railway Utilization Corporation which was a big player in the per diem boxcar boom of the 1970s. In 1990, the OB&PA canceled SLAW’s lease and operation of the line was taken over by St. Lawrence & Raquette River Railroad.
Brief History:
The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
