Company History: RRRR launched in 1998 to operate freight service on the former Rio Grande Royal Gorge route from Parkdale, Colorado east to Cañon City. They later acquired BNSF’s trackage rights east all the way to Pueblo. The total length is about 53 miles. Traffic is primarily aggregates but they also offer transload services for any commodity you like. The locomotive fleet has included one each of the following: Whitcomb 25-tonner, GP40-2, GP30, SD9, and two GP40’s. Part of the line is shared with the Cañon City & Royal Gorge tourist railroad. Rock & Rail’s Soo-inspired yellow and red paint scheme won second place in the Worst Paint Schemes of North America as voted by the readers of Railroad of the Day.
