Company History: The QRR was the result of the 1917 reorganization of the Quincy Western Railway. The line runs three miles from Quincy Junction on the former Western Pacific mainline to the outskirts of Quincy, California. In 1986, they also took over operation of the 23 mile former Southern Pacific branch between Wendel and Susanville. This was done on behalf of QRR’s parent Sierra Pacific Industries to preserve rail service to their sawmill in Susanville. That section was closed when the mill in Susanville closed in 2004. The original route continues to operate today, handling forest products.
