Company History: The PRYL was launched in 1985 by the South Carolina Public Railways Commission to take over the former Charleston & Western Carolina line from Port Royal (about half way between Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina) to Yemassee, 26 miles to the northwest from Seaboard System. Traffic included aggregates, beer, clay slurry, lumber and paper. Traffic through the port was light when compared to Savannah and Charleston and in 2006, the state officially closed it. Three years later, the railroad was officially closed and the property was transferred to another government agency.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
