Company History: The PNER opened in 1982 with the purchase of 93 miles of duplicate lines between Wilkes Barre and Scranton, Pennsylvania from Conrail and Delaware & Hudson. The lines consisted of bits of Delaware Lackawanna & Western, Central of New Jersey and D&H. The locomotive fleet included an NW2, an SW7, an SW1 and a GP9. Traffic included coal, lumber, manufactured items, paper and plastic. PNER ran for 13 years before the assets were auctioned in 1995.
