Company History: The N&B completed a six mile line between its namesake towns in Eastern Pennsylvania in 1904. For most of its history, the N&B was owned by US Steel. This area is in Pennsylvania’s “cement belt.” In addition to the cement and related coal traffic, N&B served as a bridge route between the Lehigh & New England and the Jersey Central. However, the L&NE closed in 1961 and CNJ pulled out of the state in 1972. By 1979, there was virtually no traffic left and the N&B closed.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
