Company History: The first NKCR was established by the North American RailNet family of shortlines in 1996 to acquire 559 miles of former Chicago Burlington & Quincy routes in its namesake states from BNSF. North American RailNet exited the railroad business in 2005, selling the NKCR and two other railroads to the OmniTRAX shoreline group. OmniTRAX renamed the line, Nebraska Kansas Colorado Railway.
