Transportation Company - Nashville & Eastern - Railroad

Company History: Nashville & Eastern began service in 1986 as a spinoff of Seaboard System. The 131 mile line runs from Nashville, Tennessee east to Monterey. This route was part of the Tennessee Central which closed in 1968. L&N took possession of the line after that. The current owners pumped 80 million dollars into track work and upgraded or replaced 85 bridges. They also built a new three mile branch to serve a new customer.

Beginning in 2006, Nashville’s “Music City Star” commuter rail service began operation on the NERR between Nashville and Lebanon. As of this writing, NERR has an all GE locomotive Roster: Four B40-8W’s; one U30B; one U23B; four B23-7’s; two C30-7’s; and four B39-8E’s. Traffic includes chemicals, forest products, grain, and limestone. In November, 2018, the company was sold to RJ Corman who assumed operation of the line in January, 2019.
