Company History: The MWRR leased the 52 mile line between Butte and Garrison, Montana from Burlington Northern in 1986. They connected with BN, Union Pacific and Rarus Railroad. The MWRR diesel fleet included a trio of GP9’s and a pair of GP38-2’s. Additional power was leased from Rarus Railway when required. Traffic included lumber, grain and minerals. The lease arrangement ended in 2003 and BN successor BNSF resumed operation of the route.
