Transportation Company - Mississippi & Skuna Valley - Railroad

Company History: The M&SV was opened in 1926 by the E.L. Bruce Company to link their sawmill in Bruce, Mississippi to a connection with the Illinois Central near Coffeeville 22 miles away. By 1973, Weyerhaeuser Company owned the mill and the railroad. In 2008, operations ended suddenly when a bridge on the connecting Illinois Central line (now owned by Canadian National) was seriously damaged. Despite the fact that it wasn’t running, the M&SV was included in the sale of all of Weyerhaeuser’s railroads to the Patriot Rail family of shortlines in 2010. It soon became clear that the offending bridge would not be repaired and the M&SV was officially abandoned in 2012.
