Company History: The MNRY was established in 2011 by the parent company of the New Brunswick Southern and Eastern Maine railroads to take over operation on lines running northeast out of Millinocket, Maine from the Montreal Maine & Atlantic who was seeking to abandon them. The state of Maine bought the lines from MM&A for $30 million and MNRY is the designated operator. The mainline runs north from Millinocket to Madawaska, then southeast to a connection with Canadian National in the Van Buren area. There is also a pair of branches, one to Huelton and the other to Presque Isle and the frontier to the east of there. The deal also included trackage rights on the MM&A from Millinocket south to Brownville Junction. This is all former Bangor & Aroostook trackage. In total, MNRY operates 258 miles of line. For the most part, locomotives of sister road New Brunswick Southern are used but at least one locomotive has been lettered for Maine Northern.
