Company History: The KJR launched in 1995 with the purchase from Conrail of a 5 mile segment between Aladdin and Schenley, Pennsylvania of the former Pennsylvania Railroad mainline between Pittsburgh and Buffalo. The deal included the bridge over the Kiskimemitas River erected in 1899. KJR added tourist trains to the mix in their second year. In 2008, the KJR was extended 9 miles to reach the Logansport coal mine at Crooked Creek. Unit trains from this mine are pulled with Norfolk Southern power (KJR interchanges with NS at Schenley.) Freight traffic includes steel, cattle feed and coal. In addition to their Alco S1, KJR also has an SW900M painted in Lehigh Valley heritage colors.
