Kendallville Terminal

Company History: The KTR operates one mile of track in Kendallville, Indiana. The entire railroad has just eight turnouts. Traffic is syrup and sugar for a Kraft Foods marshmallow and caramel plant. In recent years, they also hauled salt for a water softener company and aggregates. The line was originally part of the Grand Rapids & Indiana, later part of the Pennsylvania Railroad. It was purchased from Conrail by Michigan Southern in the late 90s and operated as a small division of that line. When the Pioneer Railcorp family of shortlines purchased the Michigan Southern, this line was split off as a separate shortline: the Kendallville Terminal Railway.

Successor/Parent History: Pioneer Railcorp is a railroad holding company that owns short line railroads and several other railroad related businesses including a railroad equipment company and a contract switching services company. Railroad transportation is provided by the Company’s wholly-owned short line railroad subsidiaries ("Pioneer Lines".) Pioneer Lines rail system is primarily devoted to carrying freight and currently consists of 23 rail operations in 13 states with over 600 miles of track serving over 100 customers. .
