Company History:
The GNRR was the result of a 1987 spin-off from CSX of the former Louisville & Nashville “Hook and Eye Line.” It runs from Marietta to Ellijay, Georgia 72 miles away. In 1996, they leased more line from the Geogia DOT from Ellijay to McCaysville and established the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway to operate tourist trains. Traffic includes grain, lumber, marble and poultry. As of this writing, there are 13 diesels in the GNRR fleet: one SW1, one NW2, two GP20’s, one GP38-2, one GP7, one GP9, two GP10’s, one GP18, and two GP38’s.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
