Company History: The GETY ran 23 miles between Gettysburg and Mount Holly Springs, Pennsylvania. For most of its history, this line was the Gettysburg Branch of the Reading. It was excluded from the formation of Conrail so the state took ownership. They sold it immediately to a new startup called Blairsville & Indiana which was then re-named Gettysburg Railroad. The GETY was sold to a subsidiary of the Rail America shortline group in 1996 and they changed the “Railroad” to “Railway.” In addition to the freight business, the line hosted tourist trains. In 2001, RailAmerica sold the GETY to the Pioneer Railcorp shortline group who renamed it Gettysburg & Northern.
Successor/Parent History:
The GET was born in 2001 when the Pioneer Railcorp family of shortlines bought the Gettysburg Railway from RailAmerica. Traffic on the 23 mile route between Gettysburg and Mount Holly Springs, Pennsylvania includes canned goods, grain, pulpboard, scrap paper, and soda ash.
