Company History: The FRDN was built in 1909 to connect Ferdinand, Indiana to the Southern Railway at Huntingburg, six and a half miles away. The line was not heavily traveled and a single 4-4-0 worked the line until 1953. A GE 45-tonner then took over. The railroad was owned by the Dolly Madison Bakery for several years. They had a facility served by the Ferdinand. During the incentive per diem boxcar boom, car builder and lessor Evans Transportation leased Ferdinand’s FRDN reporting marks and placed more than a thousand cars in service (more than could be stored on the railroad if they all came home at once.) After the boom, the railroad was sold in 1987 and became the Ferdinand & Huntingburg for a few years before being abandoned in 1991.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
