Company History: This line ran 48 miles of terminal and industrial trackage in the Bettendorf and Davenport, Iowa areas. The company was launched in 1884 under the name Davenport & Rock Island Railway & Bridge Company. Five decades and two names later, they emerged from the Depression with the DRI&NW name. For many years, ownership of the line was split between Burlington Route and Milwaukee Road. The Dry Line nickname is a reference to their DRI reporting marks. After the 1980 collapse of Rock Island, DRI&NW took over Rock’s switching lines in the area. The company was dissolved in the summer of 1995 and the trackage split up between their parents CP Rail and BNSF.
