Company History: The CISD was built by the state of Georgia in 1969 to link a ship-to-rail mineral trans-load operation just south of Brunswick, Georgia to connections with Seaboard Coast Line and Southern 12 miles away at Anguilla. The railroad sat almost completely unused for 11 years before things began to pick up. The state still owns the line and the Georgia Ports Authority operates it. CISD did a particularly egregious job of chopping the nose on GP7 #8235. The silver and white paint scheme added insult to injury. This paint scheme came in sixth in the Worst Locomotive Paint Schemes In North America poll of the readers of Railroad Of The Day. It was subsequently repainted blue and yellow.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
