History: In july 1936, C2 was fighting on the Republican side of the Spanish Civil War. She received instructions to patrol outside Cueta to deny the cruiser Almirante Cervera access to the harbor. C2 then spent her time escorting merchant vessels into the harbor before sailing to France to undergo a refit from 1937 to 1939. She was surrendered to the Nationalists during a pro-Franco mutiny in Cartagena ion July 3, 1939 and withdrew to Palma where she was commissioned into the Nationalist fleet.
Class: The Spanish C-Class submarines were a similar design the the UK's World War I Holland designs. They were built in Spain under license from the Electric Boat Company. A total of six were built and they served on both sides of the Spanish Civil War. The C-2 remained in service until 1951.
