Company History: VolkerRail is originally a Dutch contractor for rail works.
The company is a subsidiary of VolkerWessels and was established on 6 August 1997 as Volker Stevin Rail & Traffic by merging of companies Railbouw Leerdam, Van der Worp and GrantRail (at the time all owned by Royal Volker Wessels Stevin), J.C. Petrus, and parts of NS Infra Services, ER Groep, Strukton Bearings, Strukton Infra Services Materieel and Railpro (at the time all owned by the Dutch Railways). The company has been operating under the VolkerRail name since January 16, 2006.
In late 2008 VolkerWessels bought the UK-based Grant Lyon Eagre Ltd, that became VolkerRail UK in 2009.
Brief History:
The Netherlands, a country in northwestern Europe, is known for a flat landscape of canals, tulip fields, windmills and cycling routes. Amsterdam, the capital, is home to the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and the house where Jewish diarist Anne Frank hid during WWII. Canalside mansions and a trove of works from artists including Rembrandt and Vermeer remain from the city's 17th-century "Golden Age."
