Transportation Company - Bush Terminal - Railroad

Company History: Bush Terminal was a busy commercial center in the Greenwood Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The commercial property, railroad, carfloats and piers were built as an integrated industrial development in 1895. The railway was connected to the rest of the North American rail network by way of carfloats. New York Dock Railway took over the Bush Terminal Railway in 1972.
Successor/Parent History:
NYD was established in 1901 with the purchase of the defunct Brooklyn Wharf & Warehouse Company. Car floats brought railcars from docks in New Jersey and the Bronx to NYD’s three terminals located south of the Brooklyn Bridge. The three terminals were called Atlantic, Baltic, and Fulton. NYD dieselized in 1951 with five GE 44-tonners. In 1972, the city of New York appointed New York Dock as the designated operator of the adjoining Bush Terminal. During the proceedings that would ultimately create Conrail, it was determined that NYD should also acquire the neighboring Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal. It would be 1978 before they actually took control of the BEDT and by that time, NYD was in worse shape than the BEDT. Before long, the changing methods of handling freight in ports caught up with them and in 1983, New York Dock Railway and Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal were closed. Rail operations at Bush Terminal and Atlantic Terminal were resumed by New York Cross Harbor Railroad.

Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
