Company History: BDTL was established in 1997 to operate 3 miles of track that had been abandoned by BNSF in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood. The line began with 3 customers: Salmon Bay Sand & Gravel, Olsen Furniture and Western Pioneer Shipping. The latter was a fish processor. Only Salmon Bay still receives service by rail. The red, black and silver paint scheme is a nod to the colors of Ballard High School. The Ballard Terminal is affiliated with 2 other Washington shortlines, the Eastside Freight Railroad and Meeker Southern.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
