Company History: ABL was established in 1926 to operate three and a half miles of industrial track built by the City of Alameda (in the East Bay portion of the San Francisco Bay Area.) ABL was jointly owned by Santa Fe and Western Pacific and their successors. When their last major customer, a Del Monte cannery, closed in 1998, so did the ABL. Union Pacific continued to use their trackage rights to serve one last customer for another three years. After that, the line was abandoned and the property reverted to the City of Alameda.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
