Company History: This line was the result of a 1989 spinoff from CSX. Yorkrail ran 16 miles of former Western Maryland line from York, Pennsylvania to Porters, Maryland. It was a subsidiary of Emons Railroad Group who also owned the neighboring Maryland & Pennsylvania (Ma&Pa.) In 1999, Yorkrail and Ma&Pa were merged to form York Railway (the two lines connected in the city of York.) York Railway joined the Genesee & Wyoming shortline family in 2002.
